Hello

This is my blog about my own personal battle with "beauty." Products, fashion, skin, hair, and whatever else I can get my hands on.

You can watch me fail, succeed, and probably embarrass myself on this journey. And who knows, maybe I can even teach you something useful ;)

Current Skin Regimen - My Battle with Blemishes

"Wow, your skin is so flawless."
"Your skin is like porcelain."
"You have beautiful skin, take care of it."

These are compliments I recieved almost every times I went out. Until I turned 17 and got slammed with ACNE, my immortal enemy! But let it be known, that even before I had acne, I always washed my face every day and night. I was obsessed with skin care. But I guess somewhere along the way I got a little to carried away with trying natural products, and my skin took a turn for the worst. I'm almost 19 and I'm still battling with this acne that wont die no matter what I try to murder it with!
I can't neccessarily say it was Burt's Bee's that made me break out- but it was definitely Burt's Bee's. But more on that later. Now, you may or may not have heard about Paulas's Choice. I happened upon her products while rummaging through my brothers bathroom one day (I was looking for sun screen). I took it as some kind of sign and ninja'd my way out of the bathroom with this newfound life saver.
Her products have really tamed my acne, but do not completely make my skin clear. It defnitely helps a lot though! However, when I got back from a random trip to LA (where I was supposed to meet a guy but he is an asshole and pansied out), I realized I had left my cleansers there. Being the lazy woman I am I decided to use whatever I had around the house until I found a better product to buy. But after a while I started to break out more and decided to buy Pauals Choice products once again, which brings us to my current regimen!

  1. Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Cleaner - Twice a day. It removes makeup very well and is even gentle enough to use on your eyes. YUSS! The ingredients in this aren't all that great, meaning natural, but I find that it does a really good job of getting all the dirt off my skin. Including make up, like I said.

  2. Paual's Choice 2% BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) Gel - I mostly use this at night, but since my skin has broken out, I use a little during the day as well. You use this on the areas which break out the most. But since it will make the skin sensitive, during the day it is REALLY important to be wearing an SPF!

  3. Paual's Choice Extra Stength Blemish Fighting Solution - This is a gel and has a 5% concentration of benzoyl peroxide - that said I only use this at night and as a spot treatment for my acne. Again, SPF should be worn.

  4. Olay Complete Moisturizer w/ SPF 15 Sensitive Skin- I have litterally JUST started using this, so I will be disussing how this effects my skin after I use it for at least a week and a half. I heard good things about this from a few people, and I believed this would be a good purchase. It's oil free, has SPF (although I wish it had a little more than 15 but I'll most likely try a new one in the future), won't clog my pores, blahblahblah. But when I got home I went on Acne.org and kind of regret the purchase now. A lot of people who reviewed this product say they broke out. FFFFFF- WHYY! I could return this. But fuck it. I'm going to give it a shot. My skin is already breaking out so why not? I will use this only during the day (I bought sensitive because it is fragrance free, one less ingredient I am weary of).
Okay so that is my daily regimen.  I do have more though, and these are things which I do not use daily.
  1. St. Ives Apricot Scrub for Blemish and Blackhead Control - this has 2% salysilic acid in it which is great for acne. This is something I bought with the Olay moisturizer, so I just started. I did use this last night though so I have something to say about it. It felt weird scrubbing it with my hands!! But my skin felt GREAT afterwards. Soft, fresh, and the smell is wonderful. But this is an exfoliater, and you do not want to do this too often. It might make my skin more pissed off. So I am only using this 1-2 times a week.
  2. Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Carbon Mask - I am only going to use this maybe once every week or every couple of weeks. I think my skin likes this. It comes out black, but duh it's a charcoal mix so of course. I actually like it. It has a bit of a burn or tingly feeling after it has been on a while. But my skin feels great afterwards. No cons.
After I use these I proceed with using my other products. I will let you know how it works out in a week or two. You should always give your skin time to adjust to new things. Chances are you will break out after trying a new thing, but you should continue using whatever it is for a full week and a half before giving up.

I suck at being patient, so if you are the same, believe me I KNOW. But I've learned you need to suck it up and just wait for things to take effect. Nothing, not matter what it says, is going to work over night.
